In Anglo-Saxon mythology, Eostre is the divine force of rebirth, awakening the earth after the long darkness of winter. When she once saved a wounded bird from the cold, she transformed it into a hare to keep it alive. Yet the creature never forgot its true nature longing to fly and lay eggs. Moved by this devotion, Eostre grants it back its original gift once each spring, and so the hare leaves behind colored eggs as an offering a symbol of renewal, life, and transformation.
